Importing original works of art into the UK
If you are shipping items from one country to another, shipping charges, taxes and import duties may apply. If you are in any doubt about the regulations that apply please seek professional guidance as it is your responsibility, as the owner of the goods, to ensure you comply with all relevant regulations and controls. Maak will only be able to offer works where all obligations have been fulfilled.
If import declarations are completed correctly import VAT on original works of art is charged at a reduced rate of 5% rather than the standard rate of 20%
Any reputable shipping company will be able to guide you through this process to ensure you are importing works correctly so we advise shipping through a professional shipping company where possible.
If you would like to courier items directly to Maak it is your responsibility to declare the goods to customs correctly. If Maak is stated as the importer on record (you will need our UK EORI Number to do this) you will remain liable for any taxes and import duties incurred unless agreed otherwise in advance.
If you intend to hand carry items into the UK it is your responsibility to declare the goods to customs on arrival at the point you enter the UK. If Maak has provided provisional auction estimates these should be used for declared import values. It is possible to arrange to be met by a customs agent who can submit declarations with customs prior to arrival in the UK to ensure procedures are followed correctly for a swift transit through customs.
If Maak has provided provisional auction estimates these should be used for declared import values.
If you are not able to provide correct proof of customs declaration we will have to submit a retrospective declaration before items can be offered for sale. A retrospective declaration will incur additional fees for which you will be liable.
