Kakurezaki Ryuichi

(Japanese b.1950)

Kakurezaki Ryuichi is an important and celebrated Bizen potter, working within this historic tradition whilst experimenting with clays, techniques and forms to produce striking and distinctive pieces. He originally studied at Osaka University of the Arts and worked in design, before taking up an apprenticeship with Isezaki Jun, the current Bizen ‘Living National Treasure’. He is based in Imbe, the historic home of Bizen ware, where he established his own kiln in the 1980s. His works are held in public collections including the Victoria and Albert Museum, London.
