Julian Stair studied at Camberwell School of Art and the Royal College of Art and currently lives and works in London. His works range from small scale tableware and cups and teapots on ‘grounds’ to monumental jars and sculptures. His style is distinctive for its minimalism in decoration, working within a limited colour palette, and focusing on the forms and functions of the pieces. He is widely exhibited, with pieces held in public collections including the Victoria and Albert Museum, London and the Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge, as well as internationally. Stair is also an academic and writer and holds a PhD from the Royal College of Art. He was appointed an OBE in 2022 for services to ceramics.
