Tamura Koichi Graduated from Tokyo University of Arts, and went on to study under Tomimoto Kenkichi in 1946. Koichi was also influenced by Hamada Shoji and the Mingei movement, working in Sano which is not far from Mashiko. He is recognised for his iron underglaze decoration (tetsu-e), a technique for which he was designated a National Living Treasure in 1986.
