Takauchi Shugo

(Japanese b.1937)

Takauchi Shugo was drawn into ceramics after a visit to Mashiko where he encountered the works of Hamada Shoji. He established his kiln in 1963, and continues to work in Mashiko today. He works in the style of traditional Mino wares such as Shino and Oribe, and is best known for his large scale, bold Oribe works and sculptural ‘bucket’ forms.
