Nishihata Tadashi was born into a potting family from the Tamba region, and is an important contemporary maker of Tamba ware. He works with traditional Tamba techniques such as ‘aka-dobe’ red slip, and is also known for his use of thick ash glazes. His works are often carved and faceted, highlighting the layered colours of the glazes he employs, creating a impression of ‘landscapes’ on the forms.
