Kaneta Masanao is an 8th generation Hagi potter. Whilst working within the historic Hagi tradition employing the distinctive white and pink glaze, he has a highly sculptural approach to his work using the distinctive 'kurinuki' technique of carving and scooping out forms from a solid block of clay to produce boldly-cut forms. Many of his works are rendered as mountainous forms in creamy white glazes with pink and purple kiln effects. Kaneta's work has been shown in many museum exhibitions in Japan, and features in public collections including the National Museum of Modern Art amongst others both in Japan and abroad.
