Initially working in fashion and film, Carol McNicoll went on to study an MA in Ceramics at the Royal College of Art between 1970-73, where she was one of a group of ground-breaking female ceramic artists who all graduated from the RCA at that time and went on to transform the British ceramics scene.
Carol McNicoll's work focused on functional, domestic vessels that were transformed into sculptural objects, typically with richly patterned surfaces. Her composite forms and sculptures use inventive slip-casting, modelling and moulding techniques and transfer decoration.
